Early Childhood Educator (ECE)

Job Description
Little Sprouts Christian Early Learning Center serves children ages 3-5 years and is associated with the K-12 Christian school in the Comox Valley, Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Academy. The learning center is located at 1105 Pritchard Road, Comox, BC, and operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. ECE working hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and our ECEs are eligible for the ECE wage enhancement program.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Being Present with the Children:

  • Assist children with tasks.
  • Support classroom management and address behaviors by redirecting when necessary.
  • Participate in circle time by sitting with children.
  • Assist with toileting, eating, and resting times.

2. Collaboration with Program Director and Teachers:

  • Assist in planning and implementing curriculum, including:
    • Circle time.
    • Activities in Art, Math, Science, Bible, and Literacy.
    • Gathering necessary materials.

3. Adherence to Licensing Policies:

  • Maintain positive child guidance practices.
  • Keep certifications up to date.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with monthly fire drills and quarterly earthquake drills.

4. Communication:

  • Welcome families warmly.
  • Communicate with the Program Director regarding necessary information about children and/or their families.
  • Record all relevant information in the communications binder, including incidents that must be communicated to families.
  • Check the communications binder at the start of each shift.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Assist in Daily Operations of the Preschool:
    • Perform safety checks (e.g., water and playground).
    • Help with classroom cleaning.
    • Manage supplies and inventory.
    • Ensure property maintenance.
    • Assist with daily attendance.
  • Lead Circle Time and Plan Activities:
    • Step in when the Program Director is absent due to illness or vacation.

Requirements

  • Early Childhood Education Certification (1 year or 5 years).
  • Clear Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check.
  • First Aid Certification with CPR-C and AED.
  • Love for Jesus and active participation in a church community.
  • Passion for Children and a desire to teach.
  • Flexibility in working with children, fellow educators, and the Program Director.
  • Teachability and a willingness to learn from co-workers.
