It was just an optional competition mentioned at the end of a WAAG newsletter: Skills Canada was having a Trades and Technical competition with entries due on Friday the following week. But it was enough to gain the attention of grade 8 student, Sophia Kanamori, especially since one of the competitions was a baking challenge. Fortunately, it didn't take her long to whip up an idea! That idea was to make a gingerbread laptop displaying four different trades, two of which Sophia's uncles are currently doing (plumber and butcher) as well as a cook and heavy machine mechanic. Talk about creativity! It took one long week of hard work to make, bake and then enter her creation into the competition. And it's a good thing she did too! Sophia won first place receiving a fifty dollar gift card of her choice!
Well done, Sophia! We are very proud of you and your accomplishment.
