Monday through Wednesday were a busy few days at Camp Bob, where we helped the camp get ready for summer activities. What did we do? Stack wood, clear brush, fill holes, put up tents and tarps, make educational booklets, and stained buildings. Each afternoon, we took an hour to participate in some fun activities - archery, small ropes course, and canoeing.
On Thursday, we worked at Comox Pentecostal Church's community garden, moving a lot of bark mulch to build up the paths, and planting new flowers and shrubs. Friday was our last day of service. In the morning, a few students got up early to walk around downtown Courtenay, offering coffee and breakfast to those without homes. We had a lot of great conversations with people, and we learned that there are many, many reasons for homelessness in our valley. For the rest of the day, we volunteered for the Town of Comox - working at invasive plant removal, getting the Hands-on Farm ready for its summer season, and picking up garbage at Kye Bay and Point Holmes beaches.
It's been an amazing two weeks of missions, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve! We will be putting together a video/picture report in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for it!
