Students in our Grad program attend school for classwork four days per week with an AIM program day on Friday.
Classes are linear; they run at the same time each day, Monday through Thursday. The academics required to graduate are facilitated during the 10:00 AM to 3:15 PM day. All students appreciate this delayed start time. Additional academic courses are offered outside of this timetable, i.e. 9:00-10:00 AM and/or 3:30-5:30 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays.
There are in-school classes from Monday to Wednesday. Thursdays' school work can be completed at school with the course teacher or at home with the student organizing their own time frame for work.
Students in grade 10 "earn" the flexibility to work from home after demonstrating executive functioning skills such as time management. This opportunity for flexibility is reviewed on a monthly basis. All communication, including assignments, is posted on Google Classroom. Teachers email students and parents on Wednesday if Thursday's flex day attendance is required.
A student's grade 10 year has the heaviest academic course load as almost all of the courses are required for graduation. Students take a Math 10 course, Science 10, Social Studies 10, PHE 10, and more. In grades 11 and 12, students have more choice in which courses they take for graduation credits although there are still a number of required courses.
We believe that grade 11 and 12 students grow in their ability to balance their school, work and personal life. Teachers are on-site for student support during courses flex blocks.
One of the central ideas of our AIM program is that students learn to work hard and play hard. Ideally, students complete their weekly school work by Thursday at 3:00 PM so they can enjoy their program day with no homework, except for projects and/or reviewing for assignments.
Our AIM Grad Program, with the Thursday flex day and program Friday, transitions students for life after high school and develops the skills required to successfully enter the workforce today, skills such as time management, adaptability, organization, collaboration and effective communication.
